 Our village has chosen as its characteristic the hill Ostražica because this very conspicuous hill is one of the most remarkable phenomenons in the village. When you look at this hill you turn your attention to big rocks sticking out of the hill under its top. This natural phenomenon has been used as a symbol on the signet of the village. Signet has an oval form, where an engraver engraved a high hill with two round rocks on it. There is a morning star above the rocks. There are two coniferous trees at the sides of the hill. There is engraved this text at the first third of the girth of the signet: SIGILUM:POSES(ionis): NISNA. Under this text there is also another line which defines precisely the symbol of the village: OSTRAZICA (a letter Z is engraved reversely).

This signet appeared for the first time in the documents from the year 1796 till 1867, there is also not a very remarkable feature on the signet. There are two small branches engraved under the hill. For sure their function is not to fulfill an empty space. Let notice that the handwriting was being cutting only with one task: to make a free space for this branches. The existence of this two branches means that there had been an ecclesiastical motive instead of this branches on the older signet.

  Nižná showed an interest to have an own blazon in 1994. As the most appropriate blazon we chose the historical symbol of the village from 18th century which is not only credible for Nižná but which is also very apt for our village. We recommended to use a blue shield with the gold hill and two green coniferous trees situated at both sides of the hill. There are three silver rocks under the top of the hill and there is also a gold star above them.
